CONSOLE HER HEART
Consoling the Sorrowful Mother
“Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow.” (Lamentations 1:12)

HOW WE CONSOLE HER
Consoling the Immaculate Heart
Mary is now in heavenly glory, yet the Church has always invited the faithful to keep her company in her sorrows, as a child stays beside a grieving mother. At Fatima in 1917, Our Lady spoke of her Immaculate Heart and asked for prayer, penance and reparation for sin.
We console her above all by loving her Son: by turning away from sin, by prayer, and by returning love for love.
THE PATH
Six Ways to Console Our Lady
01
Meditate on Her Sorrows
Each sorrow is a window into the love of Jesus and Mary. Meditation turns knowledge into love.
02
Prayer and Reparation
Offer prayers and small sacrifices in reparation for sins that wound the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
03
Pray the Seven Sorrows Rosary
Seven Our Fathers and forty-nine Hail Marys, one sorrow at a time, with Mary.
04
Make a Good Confession
Nothing consoles a mother more than the return of a child. Go often to the Sacrament of Penance.
05
Remain Faithful to Jesus
Like Mary at Calvary, stay with Jesus when it is costly: in temptation, suffering and loneliness.
06
Become Her Spiritual Child
Take Mary into your home as St John did, entrusting your whole life to her care.
A CHILD OF OUR LADY OF SORROWS
Becoming Her Spiritual Child
Jesus gave His Mother to us from the Cross. To become a devoted child of Our Lady of Sorrows means honouring her daily, meditating on her sorrows, imitating her faith and spreading love for her.
PRAYER
Act of Entrustment
O Mary, Mother of Sorrows, I take you as my Mother, as St John did at the foot of the Cross. I give you my heart, my sorrows and my joys. Teach me to stand faithfully with Jesus, to console your Immaculate Heart, and to lead others to your Son. Amen.

Prayer of Consolation
At the Cross her station keeping,
stood the mournful Mother weeping,
close to Jesus to the last.
Through her heart, His sorrow sharing,
all His bitter anguish bearing,
now at length the sword has passed.
O how sad and sore distressed
was that Mother, highly blest,
of the sole-begotten One!
Christ above in torment hangs;
she beneath beholds the pangs
of her dying glorious Son.
